| Fashion Doll Quarterly Magazine Winter 2009: FAME
On The Cover“Fame– I wanna live forever!” It seems you can these days if you are on television or in the movies (or in vinyl). Every year celebrity dolls of all kinds capture us. Some are fashionable, like “Hollywood Royalty,” and others are little doppelgänger of their human counterparts (Oooh, Edward! I mean, Rob?) Often, you will find collectors like myself who love both dolls and film. So the perfect storm comes when a doll is based on a film character, or even resembles your favorite celebrity. We asked our editors to share their personal take on the world of celebrity dolls, or how they turn their dolls into celebrities.
The perfect artists to speak to about this topic are the epic trio of Noel Cruz, Laurie Leigh and Jenny Sutherland (who created the recreated characters on the cover). These three extraordinary talents continue to bring us amazing recreations of famous stars, whether they use dedicated sculpts, or paint, mold and Dremel them into being with an existing fashion doll. What inspiretonnrs them- and how do they do that? Take a look inside and find out!
