Signed and Autographed Ponies
by Kathy Morrow

The Trail of Painted Ponies was a powerful merge of businesses charities and artists for the benefit of the New Mexico community. In the first year of the projects conception, 120 life size horse sculpturs were cast in a polyurethane resin. All artists began with the same sculpture as a blank canvas on which to create their art. Artists were allowed to alter the horses and many did. I sculpted and attached 7 eagle feathers to the mane and tail of Horse Feathers. Each artist was sponsored by a business and profit from the auction of the horses benefited New Mexico charities. The life size Horse Feathers is now on public display in the lobby of High Desert State Bank in Albuquerque, NM. The life size Give Me Wings is at 1st New Mexico Bank of Las Cruces in Las Cruces NM. Old Town Emporium sponsored Horse Feathers to benefit The Women's Community Association, an organization that offers safe haven for women and children who have experienced domestic violence. High Desert State Bank sponsored Give Me Wings to benefit Jardin de Los Ninos in Las Cruces, NM, Jardin educates and cares for young children of homeless and near homeless families while helping to them to recover..

Kathy Morrow Kathy Morrow's paintings on clayboard capture a mood somewhere between reality and myth. Kathy draws inspiration from her own experiences and those of her people and animal friends, then integrates elements from Native American legends to create her striking compositions. The results are uniquely expressive, of her personal thoughts and feelings and the cultural heritage she learned while growing up on the San Carlos Apache Reservation in Arizona and the Pine Ridge Oglala Reservation in South Dakota. The combination of rich color and graphic precision we find in her work is the result of a time consuming process. She brushes watercolor paints on clayboard, cuts line details into the clay surface with a knife, and then glazes the board with oil paints. The question of how long do the paintings take is a common one and Kathy's answer is "weeks and weeks; months and months; but not years and years" )- The finely textured images invite the viewer to share equally in the artist's recent experiences and treasures of her past.
